Borland Software has released Borland Platform for J2EE, which consists
of Enterprise Studio for Java, JBuilder 6 in Enterprise, and Enterprise.
The Borland Enterprise Studio for Java features JBuilder; Rational Rose,
a modeling environment; and best practices methodology through Rational
Unified Process. The Studio is also available with Macromedia Dreamweaver
UltraDev 4. Borland JBuilder 6 features a new way to create EJB components
through point-and-click visual development. It also integrates and supports
features of extreme programming such as refactoring, unit testing, and
automated Javadoc creation. The Borland Enterprise Server is now available
in three editions: Web, VisiBroker, and AppServer edition.
LIFT from UsableNet is an add-on product for developing accessible and
usable web sites within Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 and Dreamweaver UltraDev
4. This software includes Accessibility Suite, a solution including fix
wizards, monitoring, reporting, and new usability options. Some new features
include: customizable guidelines, the ability to automate the fixing process,
elimination of manual evaluation of HTML, and the ability to review the
development and design in real time.
Sonic Software has announced SonicXQ, a tool for web services. It provides
XML processing support and integration on a secure platform. SonicXQ is
fully standards based, provides any-to-any application connectivity, and
provides fully secure HTTP/S and SOAP support as well as WSDL generation
for UDDI registries. It also has a message-based architecture that routes
and transforms critical business information between services according
to configurable itineraries, and supports JCA adapters to transport common
application connectivity to web services through SOAP.
Sybase PowerDesigner 9.0 is a modeling and design tool that features
business process modeling capabilities, enhanced UML-based object modeling,
and supports both traditional and emerging modeling techniques within
one environment. Some new features include: the ability to generate the
database schema through true bilevel (conceptual and physical) relational
database modeling; completion of analysis and design using standard UML
techniques (use case, activity, sequence, class, and component diagrams);
automatic generation and reverse engineering of code for environments
such as Java, XML, web services, C++, PowerBuilder, and Visual Basic;
and an enterprise-class repository that allows easy viewing and sharing
of models.
Extended Systems has announced the release of XTNDConnect Mobile Objects,
a mobile application SDK. New features include: an end-to-end mobile SDK;
Streamlined Security based on Certicom Elliptical Curve technology; state
or stateless connection models; live database access with store and forward
architecture for unstable network; distributed-object architecture; SOAP
access to server objects; client application development support for AppForge
and CodeWarrior; and support for PocketPC, Palm, and Windows devices.
Telelogic has released DocExpress 3.0.1, an automated tool for engineering
documents that provides support for XML data files. Features include improved
support for Telelogic DOORS, allowing text, pictures, tables, and embedded
OLE objects from DOORS to be obtained by DocExpress; enhanced support
for Adobe FrameMaker; a link to Telelogic CM Synergy; and support for
Microsoft Word XP. DocExpress 3.0.1 is available on Windows NT/98/2000.
Quest Software has announced Quest Central for Oracle, which combines
database management tools into one product. It ensures the database is
being managed from one central console, as opposed to multiple point products,
and because all database management tasks are performed within one tool,
the database administrator is immediately notified of impending problems.
Quest Central for Oracle allows the use of one tool to address all daily
tasks including database administration, storage management, performance
management, and ensuring high availability.
X-Hive has released X-Hive/DB 2.0, a native XML database. Features include
document versioning, which is the ability to store multiple versions of
the same document without sacrificing the database's speed and performance;
binary object (BLOB) support, which allows binary large objects (such
as movie files, images, or Microsoft Office files) to be stored in X-Hive/DB;
and full-text searching, which is accomplished via integration with Lucene,
the open-source full-text index engine from Apache. Prior support for
node indexes (Context Conditioned Indexing) and element name indexes has
been expanded to include library indexes, ID attributes, and full-text
indexes.
Waterloo Maple has released Maplets, an add-on package for Maple 7 that
lets you create and customize your own GUI for Maple. It can be used to
create custom Maple calculators, interfaces to Maple packages, queries,
and messages. With Maplets, users can present Maple applications through
slider bars, buttons, text areas, pull-down menus, and other GUI elements,
to other users who do not use Maple. Maplets invoke GUI elements for Sun's
Java Swing package, but no Java programming knowledge is necessary to
develop a Maplet interface.
Langner Communications has released LUCA 5.2, a driver library for PLC
control now available for Linux and all Windows platforms. LUCA 5.2 offers
revised event-handling routines. Every event-handling routine of the object-oriented
LUCA interface (C++ classes, Delphi VCL components, ActiveX controls)
now delivers the related data such as receipt information as
a parameter.
Metrowerks has released the CodeWarrior IDE for the MIPS-based RISC embedded
systems architecture. New in Version 4.0 of CodeWarrior IDE is support
for the MIPS32 Instruction Set Architecture (ISA). In addition, it provides
you with usability features unique to MIPS tools including drag-and-drop
editing and file management. The tools also support IDT 32300 RISCore,
LSI EZ4103, NEC Vr5432, and PMC-Sierra RM700. CodeWarrior tools can be
used to debug code via a JTAG connection such as EJTAG 2.5. CodeWarrior
IDE 4.0 is hosted on Windows 98, 2000, and NT 4.0.
Thought has announced the availability of CocoBase Enterprise O/R 4.0
for J2EE and J2SE. The 4.0 release adds support for EJB 2.0, CMP Entity
Bean relationships, local and remote Bean interfaces, extended Transparent
Persistence support for local and distributed environments, Generic Session
Beans, and Tomcat 4.0 JSP code templates. Also included are integrations
for updates of HP, IBM, Oracle, and Sybase's application servers along
with XMI 1.1 support for Rational Rose, Power Designer, and Together Control
Center modeling tools.
Morgan Multimedia has released a new version of its M-JPEG codec. This
version is optimized for Intel and AMD CPUs, and Windows XP/2000. The
Morgan M-JPEG codec can compress and playback full-screen video at more
than 30 frames per second without compromising quality, replacing hardware
solutions based on additional cards or dedicated chipsets.
Xceed Software's Xceed Zip for .NET 1.0 is a data-compression and all-purpose
file-manipulation component for Visual Studio.NET written entirely in
C# and created specifically for the .NET framework. It offers a variety
of intuitive classes for manipulating zip files and compressed streams,
but also offers improved file- and folder-manipulation classes.
Sybase has introduced PowerJ 4.0, an IDE supporting complete application
and component-level development, deployment, and monitoring/maintenance
for the J2EE platform. The new version of PowerJ automates development
tasks through the generation of non-proprietary skeletal code, and simplifies
the processes of building, debugging, and deploying e-Business applications.
It also provides integration with Sybase EAServer. New features include:
JDPA debugging; EJB 2.0 and J2EE 1.3 support; new XML-based workspaces;
a new Application Server View; and Application Server Backwards Compatibility
with existing applications and servers.
IONA has announced the availability of Orbix E2A web services integration
solutions. It offers comprehensive support for languages, platforms, and
standards; and can deliver new web services based on J2EE, .NET, and CORBA
technologies. Included in Orbix E2A are: the Orbix E2A Web Services Integration
platform, which is available in XMLBus, Partner, and Collaborate; and
the Orbix E2A Application Server Platform, available in J2EE Technology,
Standard, and Enterprise.
Icon Laboratories has released the SNMP IQ Application Builder, the only
RAD tool available for embedded SNMP agent development. It is both a visual
IDE and code generator for automating a variety of SNMP development tasks.
The product automates the handling of many SNMP intricacies, including
Get-Next SNMP ordering, client-table creation, data types, and table relationships.
SNMP IQ Application Builder runs on Windows, and code generation currently
targets VxWorks and Envoy.
Openmake, from Catalyst Systems, enables the creation of applications
for all platforms, IDEs, and operating systems, including Linux and S/390.
Openmake 6.0 eliminates the use of hardcoded make files, and allows you
to record site-specific build requirements for each application into a
centralized knowledgebase, which is preloaded with over 2000 standard
build types and rules. Its searchpathfunction lets you manage complex
classpaths, and its dependency-checking facility automatically detects
class constructs such as import, extend, throw, and
new.
Xanalys has released LispWorks 4.2, a dynamic programming environment
based on ANSI Common Lisp. New improvements include: improved documentation,
syntax coloring and highlighting, windows key emulation, improved multithreading
in the IDE, and toolbars. Additionally, there are new CAPI elements such
as text-input-range, tree-view, and tooltip; extended sockets API; and
CORBA Object URLs. LispWorks 4.2 is currently available for Linux and
Windows, with a beta release available for UNIX.
ActiveState has announced the availability of Komodo 1.2 for Linux and
Windows, a cross-platform integrated development environment for open-source
technologies and XSLT programming. Komodo 1.2 is optimized for languages
such as Perl, Python, and Tcl, and now features XSLT and PHP editing and
debugging capabilities. Support for web services has also been added.
New features include improved debugging performance and resource memory
management, and XSLT automatic output preview. Additionally, it comes
with syntax checking, autocompletion, tutorials, templates, and online
documentation.
HydeSoft Computing's DPlot 1.6 graphs and manipulates 2D and 3D data
from a variety of different sources in many different formats. Features
include multiple scaling types, including linear, logarithmic, and probability
scales on the x and y axis; multiple independent or dependent scales;
contour plots of 3D data, shown as contour lines in a plan view of the
x-y plane or as shaded bands in a 3D projection; and the ability to copy
and link data from other sources. It also lets you send data to and control
DPlot from another program via Dynamic Data exchange, and create additional
functionality with your own plugin modules for file import and data manipulation.
DPlot runs on all Windows platforms.
Sun Microsystems has announced the Forte Developer 7 suite of products,
which simplifies the incorporation of C, C++, and Fortran applications
into the Sun Open Network Environment (Sun ONE) platform. The Forte Developer
7 suite has been migrated to the NetBeans open-source platform, and now
includes the Native Connector Tool, a specification and set of libraries
and wizards. Also, new features in this release include: multilanguage
debugging support; updates to Performance Analyzer; improvements in support
for de facto and ANSI standards; enhancements to Fortran, including extension
of global program checking for Fortran and improved support for the F2K
Fortran Standard; enhancements to C++ that include support for the open-source
Standard C++ Library stlport and support for the OpenMP C 1.0 Standard;
and enhancements to C that include additional support for the C99 Standard.
SoftIntegration has released Ch 2.1, a superset of C with C++ classes.
Ch supports C90, major features in C99, class in C++, and industry standards
POSIX, X11/Motif, OpenGL, ODBC, XML, and GTK+. It has built-in graphical
support; generic mathematics functions and computational arrays for linear
algebra and matrix computations; 2D/3D graphic plotting; and high-level
numerical functions for linear systems, differential equation solving,
integration, nonlinear equations, and Fourier analysis. Ch is an alternative
to other scripting languages for cross-platform shell programming to automate
tasks, regression test, system administration, real-time interactive computing,
rapid prototyping, CGI, and web development.
RSA Security has announced the release of RSA BSAFE Crypto-C 6.0 encryption
software. The latest version allows companies to lock down sensitive data
regardless of where it resides on a fileserver, in a database, on a desktop,
or even in a web browser. RSA BSAFE Crypto C encryption software is designed
to secure data while at rest, making it difficult for hackers to steal
information. The SDK includes support to allow communication with such
security-related hardware as smart cards, hardware security modules for
secure key storage, and cryptographic accelerator cards.
Eclipse.org has made available a fully functional C/C++ IDE for evaluation
with the Eclipse platform on Linux workstations. The Eclipse platform
is an open-source environment for creating, integrating, and deploying
application development tools. It provides a common set of services and
establishes the framework, infrastructure, and interactive workbench to
build application software and related elements. The platform provides
source-code building blocks, plug-in frameworks, and running examples
that facilitate application tools development. It also includes a GUI-based
source-code editor with advanced code browsing and navigation features
such as code assist, syntax-based color highlighting, and integrated help
