Sophist Solutions has rolled out Version 3.0 of its Led C++ Class Library
which is designed to support the construction of text editors, word processors,
HTML editors, and other text-intensive applications. The Led text engine
supports style runs, paragraph layouts, bullet lists, word wrap, object
embedding, and the like. The library is cross-platform, supporting Windows
95/98/2000/ME/XP, Linux/X-Windows, and Macintosh.
Quest Software has released its Foglight 3.0 application monitor. Foglight
monitors every layer of the application technology stack including web
servers, databases, application servers, operating systems, end-user,
network, and disk space to maintain the performance and availability of
the application infrastructure. Foglight 3.0 facilitates event management,
reporting, real-time and historical diagnostics, and the maintenance of
SLA and response-time guarantees.
VeriFinger, from Neurotechnologija, is a comprehensive fingerprint-recognition
technology that matches up to 10,000 fingerprints per second. It can be
used for both fingerprint identification and fingerprint verification,
requiring only 512 KB of memory for use with low-memory DSP and other
embedded applications. VeriFinger integrates with existing security systems
and works with all scanners, databases, and UIs. It is available as an
SDK for Windows; source code is available for DSP-based applications,
letting you port the system to other operating systems or embedded devices.
GrammaTech has released CodeSurfer 1.6, a maintenance, understanding,
inspection, and analysis tool. Its program-analysis techniques precompute
program properties allowing the quick and precise analysis of ANSI C source
code. New Version 1.6 features include the ability to inspect type informationa
variable's type is now shown in the property sheet for that variable;
the ability to surf to a macro definition from its use in the code; new
functionality that lets you do queries on the points-to-set of actual
parameters of functions; and enhanced scalability and build performance.
CodeSurfer runs under Windows, Linux, and Solaris 2.5 and later.
Sleepycat Software has introduced Berkeley DB XML, an embedded open source
XML data management engine. Berkeley DB XML is built as a module on top
of Berkeley DB, which provides a robust, scalable, transactional data
management service for applications. It offers the same database management
services as Berkeley DB coupled with native storage and query services
for XML data, which lets you create web-based applications and services
with unmatched reliability, scalability, and performance.
Prosentia has developed ProCrypt, which lets you control the number of
machines on which customers install your software. It avoids the difficulties
of dongles and copy protection because licensing is done via the Internet.
Public/private key cryptography is used to store the licensing information
on the customer's computer in a form that cannot be tampered with. The
software consists of an ActiveX control that you embed in your application,
and a set of Active Server Pages that you run on your web server. ProCrypt
runs on all Windows platforms and requires that the application can contain
ActiveX controls.
Rational Software has released Rational Suite v2002 Release 2, introducing
Rational XDE Modeler, a new member of the Rational XDE family, and ScriptAssure,
an industry-first capability in Rational Suite TestStudio. Rational XDE
Modeler enables you to build visual models that combine UML with free-form
drawing, and runs inside IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer, IBM
WebSphere Workbench, and Visual Studio .NET; and ScriptAssure produces
resilient test scripts for Java and web business applications. New capabilities
in existing Rational Suite products include the following: Rational XDE
Professional now offers data modeling, web publishing, reporting, and
assisted modeling capabilities; Rational PurifyPlus now provides access
to memory leak detection, code coverage, and performance analysis from
directly inside the IDE; and Rational Rose Real Time provides embedded
software with passive state-machine code-generation capabilities.
LiveDevices has released Realogy Real-Time Architect (RTA) 3.1, a real-time
operating system. RTA 3.1 is the first certified RTOS to provide full
implementation of the latest OSEK OS 2.2 standard, which defines RTOS
support for a wide range of embedded applications. It also provides integrated
timing analysis, allowing developers to identify where additional functionality
can safely be added without violating timing requirements.
Webraska has announced the release of SmartZone Application Platform
4.0, open APIs that enable sharing of context, history, and user profile
across multiple applications and interfaces. This version makes the following
services of SmartZone Application Platform available to local and remote
applications via SOAP and Java APIs: application integration services
that allow applications to work together and share subscriber context
information; subscriber profile services, which enable creation, management,
and sharing of subscriber preferences, history, and favorites; access
control services providing protection of personal subscriber information;
and publishing services for the creation, storage, retrieval, and sharing
of information and search results by different applications and subscribers.
It now supports MMS and WAP 2.0, in addition to those supported by previous
versions (Web, WAP 1.0, SMS, i-mode, and HTML browsers on PDAs).
R1, from Ontonet, is a database developed for the resource-constrained
operating environments of handheld computers. It makes it easier to collect
and access data on PDAs and other small-footprint devices. R1 enables
web data architectures by making it simple to store Java objects, XML,
and RDF metadata. It now offers native support for URI, XML, XML Schema,
RDF, RDF Schema, and Unicode. The R1 database deploys full functionality
in only 96 KB and retrieval queries exceed 30,000 objects per second.
NXN Software has released NXN alienbrain BMX web portal, a quality-assurance
tool for digital entertainment publishers and developers. It is a comprehensive
and integrated defect and request management system for digital entertainment
projects. alienbrain lets QA teams submit, store, delegate, track, and
resolve bugs or feature requests directly as a part of the team workflow.
In addition, NXN's DPM-solution supports publishers throughout the whole
project lifecycle.
Eovia has released Carrera Studio 2, which includes ultra-realistic rendering,
combining in a single rendering engine ray tracing and radiosity; photon
maps, which are able to compute the global illumination of an entire 3D
scene, thereby adding rendering features such as phong shading, reflection,
refraction, caustics, area light emitters, sky dome illumination, and
environment illumination; bones and skinning, which allow you to modify,
deform, and animate objects or a group of objects in real time; and subdivision
modeling, allowing the design of complex and detailed characters. Carrera
Studio 2 is now available for Mac OS 9 and X, as well as Windows.
Ipedo has released Ipedo Web Express, a framework that leverages XML
within web sites and portals. It is a server-side software environment
that uses XML content and stylesheets to dynamically publish web content.
Easily integrated with existing infrastructure, it allows the use of unstructured
XML content in web applications. Features include: modular content processing,
simple tag execution, cross-document content combination, and an open
development environment. Web Express is available for Windows NT/2000,
Sun Solaris, and Red Hat Linux.
Accelerated Technology's code|lab Embedded Developer Suite for ARM processors
is now available. This release includes support for ARM core providers
including ARM, Atmel, Cirrus Logic, NetSilicon, and Samsung. code|lab
Developer Suite is a comprehensive set of software and hardware components
that works out-of-the-box in a configuration that is customized to meet
the requirements of product designers. It gives you a software/hardware
tool suite in which to build embedded applications from start to finish.
Support for code|lab includes code|lab EDE, an embedded development environment;
and code|lab Debug, a multitasking debugger that supports a large variety
of targets and connection devices.
TeamCluster Project is a productivity solution enabling secure, distributed
team collaboration across the Internet. The tool supports web-based access
to a centralized project information repository for real-time development
of deliverables, product planning, document exchange, management of project
risks, and implementation of actions to drive issue resolution. The use
of standard WAR format and XML descriptors ensure application deployment
across all major OS server platforms including UNIX, Linux, FreeBSD, and
Windows 2000.
Redwood Software has released CronacleBeans, a process-management solution
that automates management and control of scheduled workload in Java environments.
It operates in the same way in which Cronacle currently does when scheduling
background jobs and tasks on other platforms. CronacleBeans runs as a
Java application in its own Java Virtual Machine, and requires no additional
application server technology. It supports the latest EJB 1.1/2.0, JMX,
and clustering; and J2EE application servers including BEA Weblogic, IBM
Websphere, Oracle 9i AS, Orion, and Jboss, among others.
The Innovator Development Kit for the OMAP processing platform, from
Texas Instruments, lets wireless developers port applications to TI's
family of OMAP application processors. It supports all leading wireless
standards, and provides an open software development and demonstration
environment. It can be customized depending on a wireless device manufacturer's
or OS provider's specifications for different device form factors. Optional
expansion modules include support for GSM/GPRS, 802.11b, and Bluetooth.
New from Media Fusion is XWeaver 1.0, an XSLT/XML Macromedias Dreamweaver
plug-in for creating and editing XSLT documents. When Xweaver loads an
XML document, it displays a node tree, providing the ability to check
XML documents as a preview.
Software Structures has released TransDbg, a Microsoft Distributed Transaction
(MSDTC) trace viewer-debugger. TransDbg tracks MSDTC calls into Resource
Managers participating in user-selected transactions. At run time, TransDbg
updates a list box with a trace of commands issued by MSDTC to Resource
Managers enlisted in those selected transactions. All four ITransactionResourceAsync
callbacks are traced: .PrepareRequest(), .CommitRequest(), .AbortRequest(),
and .TMDown(). TransDbg lets you test and view the response of transactions'
network design to Resource Manager failures. Version 1.0 requires Windows
2000.
IDELIX Software has released the Pliable Display Technology (PDT) SDK
Version 2.0, featuring advanced PDT functionality including an in-place
UI and additional support for platforms without accelerated graphics hardware.
Enhancements in 2.0 include: a structured API that builds on the basic
lens and mesh capabilities of SDK 1.0, which is data-format independent,
object oriented, and multiplatform; additional classes supplied for OpenGL
rendering to facilitate texture-mapping capabilities on an adaptive PDT
mesh; new Qt-specific classes that simplify the use of OpenGL in Qt-based
applications; and support for handheld applications under both WinCE and
embedded Linux.
Tripwire has released Version 3.0 Tripwire for Servers; Tripwire for
Servers, Check Point Edition; and Tripwire Manager software. Tripwire
for Servers 3.0 is the core integrity technology deployed on servers across
the enterprise. Key feature upgrades include the Policy Wizard, which
scans file systems to make creating a policy easy and intuitive; Integrated
Command Execution (ICE), which provides the ability to create specific
automated responses to specific integrity violations; and XML reporting,
which provides mechanisms to integrate integrity reports with existing
reporting programs. Tripwire for Servers 3.0, Check Point Edition establishes
the foundation for data security by assuring the integrity of Check Point
firewalls and VPN gateways across an enterprise. It runs on Solaris 7
and 8, and on Windows NT/2000, and XP Professional operating systems.
Tripwire Manager enables the centralized management of Tripwire for Servers
installations across the entire enterprise. Key upgrades include grouping
capability, improved audit trail, and multiple Tripwire Manager Installations.
