RDM XML, from Birdstep Technology, is a native
XML database that supports both Java and C++. The company also released
RDM Mobile 2.0, an embeddable database that includes native C++ and Java
interfaces. Both tools offer database functionality in a small footprint
using an architecture based on an object-oriented internal structure and
COM-based programming interfaces. The architecture is optimized to handle
hierarchical data. RDM XML provides interfaces such as SAX, DOM, and XPATH
for storage and retrieval of data, and implements the DOM/XPATH integrations
standard. Features of RDM Mobile 2.0 include the regular expressions tool
for evaluating arbitrary expressions and matching string attribute data,
and casual attributes for unstructured XML documents. Both databases are
deployed with the developer's applications.
Altova has released an XML product line consisting of XMLSPY 5; AUTHENTIC
5, a standards-based, browser-enabled document editor; and STYLEVISION
5, an XML tool that provides conversion utilities for migrations of HTML
web sites to XML-based ones. XMLSPY 5 includes a built-in XSLT processor
and XSLT debugger, and has an HTML Importer that lets you perform HTML-to-XML
migration through a drag-and-drop interface. An WSDL editor lets you edit,
visualize, and validation of any WSDL file, and includes the integration
with XMLSPY's schema editor for the editing of data-types and generation
of Java or C++ class files based on schema data types.
MySQL database, which provides full support for transactions, now includes
the ACID-compliant InnoDB--a high-performance transactional storage engine
designed for high-performance and scalability when processing large data
volumes and under high concurrency. Other features provided with InnoDB
include advanced row-level locking without requiring lock escalation;
multiversioning to provide concurrency while maintaining maximum data
integrity; and nonlocking reads.
New from Seapine Software is Surround SCM, a cross-platform oftware change
management (SCM) tool. The tool provides complete control over source
code changes to software development teams that require remote access,
integrated defect tracking, and advanced branching and merging of capabilities.
Surround SCM has client/server support on Windows, Linux, Solaris, and
Mac OS X; and GUI clients are available on all supported operating systems.
Surround SCM supports remote access over TCP/IP networks. It also integrates
fully into Microsoft's Visual Studio 6 and Visual Studio .NET. Seapine
includes a migration program to move files and their change history from
Visual SourceSafe into Surround SCM.
Metrowerks has released CodeWarrior Development Studio, Embedded Linux
Edition, a graphical development environment for creating applications
that run on embedded Linux across a range of multiple processor architectures.
It includes an application-level CodeWarrior debugger that provides multiprocess
and multithread debugging, and enables debugging of shared libraries.
Also new from Metrowerks is the CodeWarrior Development Suite for Symbian
OS, Professional Edition, Version 2.0, a solution for application development
on Symbian-based platforms. The integrated on-device debugging capability
in 2.0 is enabled by the porting of MetroTRK (Target Resident Kernal)
to Symbian OS 7.
Compuware has announced DevPartner64, a debugging and automated error-detection
solution for the Intel Itanium processor family. A key component of DevPartner64
is based on Compuware BoundsChecker, an automatic error detection tool
that enables C++ developers to identify and diagnose memory leaks, buffer
overruns, pointer errors, and improper API usage. DevPartner64 also introduces
a 64-bit version of Compuware SoftICE, a system debugger that provides
you with a view of all data and instructions generated by Windows XP 64-bit
Edition.
Cape Clear Software has released a free graphical WSDL Editor that delivers
a complete environment for rapid WSDL development. Features include a
Web services creation wizard; fully automated wizards for creating and
editing XML schema, schema array, complex types, simple types, and enumeration;
support for WSDL validation and profiling; support for advanced WSDL capabilities
such as imports, faults, SOAP headers, multiple bindings, and parameter
ordering; and retrieval of WSDL from across networks, UDDI repositories,
or Internet locations.
StateCoder 1.0, from Desaware, is a .NET class framework that lets you
create and support state machines using Visual Basic.NET and other .NET
languages. It improves the reliability of applications, components, and
services that make use of the multithreading and asynchronous features
of .NET. Typical uses for StateCoder include any multithreaded project,
predictive ASP.NET projects, projects that manage asynchronous calls or
background operations, and projects that implement protocols or data format
conversions.
CHARONWARE s.r.o. has released Version 2.10 of CASE Studio 2, a database
designing tool for various database systems. This release adds full support
of the Oracle 9 and MySQL 4 databases and includes new enhancements in
the reverse engineering and script generation from MS SQL, Oracle 8, PostgreSQL,
Sybase ASE, IBM DB2, as well as fixing bugs. New features in CASE Studio
2 Version 2.10 include enhanced support for Micrsoft SQL 2000, Sybase
ASE 12.5, IBM DB2, and PostgreSQL; user types and dictionaries; text objects;
and even more detailed HTML reports.
Demicron has announced the release of WireFusion 3, a drag-and-drop tool
developed for creating interactive product presentations for the web in
small and platform-independent Java applets. New in Version 3 is the capability
to write Java code and JavaScripts directly inside the program. With a
new UI and new features, Demicron has introduced WireFusion plug-ins (or
add-ons): With the WF-3D add-on, you can create 3D models and animations
in any 3D modeling tool that supports the 3D-format VRML and import them
into WireFusion; and the WF-Video add-on lets you stream MPEG movies into
WireFusion presentations without a streaming server or an extra browser
plug-in. WireFusion presentations can be viewed in all cross-platform
Java 1.1 enabled browsers, with no extra downloads or updates needed.
Pegasus Imaging has released .NET versions of ImagXpress Professional
and ImagXpress Standard, its comprehensive imaging toolkits. They are
now available as .NET managed controls, and have been implemented to run
under .NET without compromising image processing speed, features, or quality.
The TwainPRO, PrintPRO, and CapturePRO controls contained in ImagXpress
Professional now run as managed controls within a .NET environment. The
Smartscan Xpress family of products has also been released as managed
.NET controls.
CylantSecure 2.0 is an intrusion detection/prevention system that applies
a preventative, behavioral approach to security, utilizing kernel monitoring
to detect attacks without needing continual signature or rule-set updates.
CylantSecure 2.0 has behavioral training control, significantly reduces
calibration times, better behavioral visualization capabilities, and is
for use on non-RedHat distributions. New features include: context sensitive
help, a flexible policy engine, incremental calibration capabilities,
a fast console, an improved behavioral graphing engine, and a cross-platform
installer.
ShaoLin Microsystems has released ShaoLin CogoFS, a high-performance
stackable compression filesystem for Linux that reduces network traffic,
file server load, and disk space usage. ShaoLin CogoFS presents compressed
files in the existing file systems as normal files-corruption risk is
minimal because compression is done on individual files. It does not manage
disk blocks, it works transparently on top of all common file systems
and network-based file systems. ShaoLin CogoFS works over the network,
transferring compressed files to decompress at the clients kernel. It
uses ShaoLin's Kypertec compression engine, which works in the kernel
space with memory management and CPU utilization.
MathPlayer 1.0, from Design Science, lets science/technical/medical publishers
present mathematical web content with high-quality display, print, and
interaction within Internet Explorer. It provides a right-click menu that
lets users copy mathematics from the web page into MathML-enabled software
such as graphing and calculation applications, as well as into HTML and
XML authoring tools for use in new content. MathPlayer 1.0 enables copying
to the system clipboard, drag-and-drop, as well as commands to open equations
in Design Science's other MathML-enabled products, MathType and WebEQ.
eHelp has announced the release of RoboHelp X3, a help authoring tool
for easily creating online help systems for Windows and web-based applications,
including .NET. It offers a variety of authoring environments such as
the built-in HTML editor, any other HTML editor, or Microsoft Word. New
features in RoboHelp X3 include: conditional text, which lets you select
different content for different versions of their help system; Airplane
Help, which allows you to access Help offline; Batch Processing, allowing
the simultaneous generation and publishing of multiple output formats
such as WebHelp, HTML Help, JavaHelp, and printed documentation, to multiple
locations at once; context-sensitive help toolkit, which allows you to
link the help system to any C, C++, Visual Basic, Java, Delphi, or web-based
application; and more.
Linkuistics Web Services Detective 1.0 is a tool for monitoring network
communications for development or diagnostic purposes. LWSD lets you "listen"
to and record the transactions on any nominated port and send the traffic
to any other nominated port, while simultaneously viewing http headers
and data for every request and response in real time. Traffic on multiple
ports and sockets can be simultaneously displayed and recorded, and application
performance and traffic problems can be monitored and debugged. LWSD can
also be used to simulated bandwidth restrictions and communications failure
and test how applications will perform in the real world. LWSD 1.0 is
available for Windows NT/98/2000/XP. Corda Technologies has announced the addition of a .NET embedder and a .NET component to its PopChart product line. Using PopChart's .NET embedder, you can create and send dynamic charts to the web with few lines of code.
Corda also provides a web service that lets you test your .NET output
on the Corda web site, letting you ensure that the charts and graphs created
look and perform as expected. The .NET component can be installed into
Microsoft's Visual Studio .NET tool set and lets you extend the functionality
of the .NET embedder. The .NET component provides a graphical component
to show the graph as it is developed, and also provides an example of
how to use the .NET embedder.
New from GFI is GFI DownloadSecurity for ISA Server, a content security
solution that checks all downloads for viruses and lets you control what
type of files enter your network. It includes two antivirus engines: Norman
Virus Control, and SOFTWIN's BitDefender. GFI DownloadSecurity allows
you to define which file types should be quarantined for approval, and
it quarantines files based on user, file type, and file extension. GFI
DownloadSecurity lets you specify the sites from which you trust ActiveX
controls or Java applets and blocks those coming from mistrusted or unknown
sites. It integrates completely with ISA Server and GFI MailSecurity.
IMA has released Internet Exchange Messaging Server (IEMS) Version 6.
With this release, Microsoft Outlook users can continue to use their Calendaring
and Scheduling features with a Linux backend solution. New Microsoft Exchange
migration tools make the move to IEMS straightforward. In addition to
running on all Linux and Windows OSes, IEMS 6 also provides for the privacy
of confidential data through TLS (SSL) support for POP3 and IMAP4 connected
mail clients as well as for the administrator web-based tools.
Visual Mining has announced the release of NetCharts Server 4.0, a comprehensive
data visualization platform. It can be used as a standalone service or
alongside enterprise application servers such as WebSphere and WebLogic,
and can also be deployed in .NET scenarios. Improved security features
allow for separate configuration of administration and development functions,
including the securing of individual projects. This release incorporates
simple HTML forms, and also includes new APIs and toolkits allowing it
to be used with any server-side programming language.
