M7 has released Version 2.0 of its M7 Application
Assembly Platform. New features include: an enterprise object repository
that lets objects be reused without requiring expert knowledge of their
implementation; web services support; support for custom libraries; a
visual site inspector, which enables examination of uses and dependencies
in the application including the monitoring of workflow status, broken
links, and orphaned files; and JSP 2.0 support, which lets you visually
edit JSP and Java Servlet applications. M7 now includes support for J2EE
application servers such as BEA WebLogic 7.0, IBM WebSphere 4.0, and JBoss
2.4.
Datalight has released FlashFX, a line of flash memory management software
tools, which includes the FlashFX Design Ready Kit, the FlashFX OS-Specific
Adaptation Kit, and the FlashFX Universal Porting Kit. The FlashFX Design
Ready Kit includes a binary device for preconfigured operating systems,
CPU, and flash memory. The driver integrates into the development environment
to establish a FlashFX disk, which can be formatted and used like a standard
disk drive. The FlashFX OS-Specific Adaptation Kit is portable to any
processor and most flash memory technologies, and is tailored to a specific
operating system environment. It is Windows CETK tested.
Developer 8, from InstallShield, is the newest version of the company's
installation authoring solution for Windows Installer (MSI) setups. It
now includes patching and updating technology, Quickpatch, which enables
the creation of simple and reliable patches to change files and registry
entries in previously deployed packages. Other features include control
over Windows Installer packaging with direct access to all properties,
support for Windows CE-based applications, and support for clean build
systems. Developer 8 lets you create InstallerScript Objects, which provide
a way to reuse work in multiple projects.
Sleepycat Software has announced the release of Berkeley DB 4.1, the
newest version of its data management system. 4.1 adds security features
including encryption that employs the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).
Also new in 4.1 is support for database page checksums to allow detection
of database corruption caused by hardware or software failures, and improvements
to the shared memory buffer pool in order to improve concurrent throughput
and provide better scalability on multiprocessor machines.
Telelogic has released Telelogic Tau/Architect and Telelogic Tau/Developer.
Both tools, along with the previously released Tau/Tester, form the development
tools known as Tau Generation2, which lets you deploy across the entire
enterprise an integrated, multiuser visual tool solution that supports
the application development lifecycle. Some of the new features include:
system specification, which allows you to visually specify systems using
UML 2.0; specification of behavior, allowing you to visually specify the
dynamic aspects of the system's behavior; and dynamic model verification.
ApacheConf 3.0, from Zecos Software, is a shell for tuning the main configuration
file of the Apache web server, http.conf. It has advanced descriptions
of all of the server's directives and parameters, and will provide help
about any directive at any time. ApacheConf's GUI lets you view, edit,
and get help off any server's directive, and has managers to easily manage
some of Apache's directives such as LoadModule, Alias directives, and
ErrorDocument. ApacheConf also allows you to edit an http.conf file directly
from the remote server via an FTP connection.
Daemon News has released Unix Utilities for Mac OS X, a graphical UNIX
environment for Mac OS X. It installs the graphical UNIX environment and
includes a window manager that integrates transparently onto the users
existing Mac OS X desktop. Unix Utilities also includes a small collection
of open source applications compiled for OS X and packages everything
into a simple Apple installer.
New from Wanderlust Software is the licX Licensing Component for .NET,
a solution for licensing applications and components written for .NET.
It features drag-and-drop integration with existing Visual Studio .NET
projects, which allows you to quickly add licensing support to your products.
licX also provides support for redistributable components, insuring that
only properly licensed components can be redistributed; and it supports
evaluation licenses, which lets a single product distribution to behave
differently depending on the license key used.
Actional SOAPstation is a web-services management platform that simplifies
the secure distribution of web services to broad networks of web services
consumer applications. It acts as a web services proxy, brokering the
interactions between the applications that provide web services and the
systems that build on them. SOAPstation provides a unified point of control
for web service provisioning, version management, business activity monitoring,
and end-to-end security across the entire web services network. Actional
SOAPstation is available for Windows, Solaris, and Linux.
Kenamea has released Kenamea Web Messaging Platform 2.0. Features in
this version include: an open, standards-based messaging API that extends
messaging capabilities to any platform that supports HTTP; enhanced support
for integration between systems using Kenamea messaging and traditional
web business logic, enabling communication with existing web-based systems
such as Java servlets, JSPs, ASPs, and CGI; performance enhancements and
high availability features that increase throughput and reliability of
Kenamea powered applications; support for Microsoft .NET Windows Forms
applications; and runtime software and developer tools that enable you
to extend applications securely to mobile devices such as PocketPC.
Embarcadero Technologies has released ER/Studio 5.5 and ER/Studio
Repository 2.0 for data modeling and database design. Features in ER/Studio
5.5 include a new graphical interface that assists in the arrangement,
navigation, and communication of complex diagrams; and more than 50 new
features that include data dictionary updates and support for complex
objects such as Oracle packages and materialized views. Version 2.0 of
ER/Studio Repository introduces a checkout option that provides restricted
rights to the checkout user, new status icon symbols and pop-up help support,
and several performance and implementation updates.
DataDirect Technologies has announced DataDirect jXTransformer, a software
component that transforms data between XML and relations formats in Java
programs. DataDirect jXTransformer enables you to write XML code once
that works across multiple relational databases and with older versions
of individual databases. It uses an API for data access and does not require
any database changes. DataDirect jXTransformer adheres to ANSI SQL and
W3C protocols, and leverages DataDirect Connect for JDBC drivers.
New from Precise Software is Precise i3 6.0, an application performance
management program. It now provides in-depth data collection with the
TotalCorrelation and SmarTune technologies. Some other new features include:
integration between solution components; in-context navigation from tier
to tier; enhanced speed of installation and implementation; and application-specific
enhancements that enable faster deployment in ERP, CRM, Java, and other
business application environments.
PE Corrector, from GigaMind Systems, is a tool for compilation bugs correction.
PE Corrector lets you: clear binary trash in headers of PE files; insert
information (such as copyright information) into headers; erase section
names, such as .rsrc and .REloc; remove relocations tables; erase selected
functions in the export section; reduce the size of PE files; prepare
PE files for exe-packers; and protect PE files from crackers. The supported
file types are exe, dll, sys, bpl, dpl, cpl, ocx, acm, ax, and scr. It
is available for all Windows platforms.
Phaos Technology has released Phaos Liberty Toolkit, which enables you
to build applications that adhere to the sign-on authentication and authorization
specifications set by the Liberty Alliance. With the Phaos Liberty Toolkit,
you can build applications that enable single sign-on capabilities, support
the consolidation of enterprise authentication schemes, and allow the
migration from legacy infrastructure to XML-based web services. It provides
integrated XML digital signatures and XML encryption, and provides stronger
privacy and identity protection mechanisms by integrating hardware options.
The Phaos Liberty Toolkit works with any XML parser. Also new from Phaos
Technology is the Phaos XML Toolkit 2.0, a Java toolkit for building interoperable
XML-based applications; and Phaos SAML 1.0, which provides a protocol,
consisting of XML-based request and response message formats, to communicate
assertions of an entity's attributes, authentication, and authorization.
Westbridge Technology has released Westbridge XML SOAP Monitor, a free
tool that enables enterprises to monitor their networks for all XML Web
Services traffic without requiring changes to the network. It allows you
to easily detect SOAP traffic, view the content of the message for sensitive
information, and view the sender and receiver of each message. Filtering
occurs in near real-time or to log file for later processing. The Westbridge
XML SOAP Monitor can operate standalone or in conjunction with the Westbridge
XML Message Server. It is available on Windows and many UNIX platforms
including Linux and Solaris.
Century Software has announced TinyTERM Plus 4.3, which allows Windows
PCs to access character-based data and applications hosted on UNIX, Linux,
and IBM servers. Some of the new features include: RSA authentication,
port forwarding, and more cipher types; Secure Copy (SCP) capabilities
for secure file transfers; the ability to record a series of keystrokes
as a script for later playback, allowing you to automate repetitive tasks
without the need to learn a scripting language; and extra features to
the TN3270 and TN5250 emulators that allow you to print a copy of your
screen. TinyTERM Plus 4.3 is available for all versions of Windows.
Logic Programming Associates has released its range of software development
tools that includes LPA Prolog for Windows, Flex, Flint, Prolog++, ProData,
Intelligence Server, ProWeb Server, WebFlex, DataMite, Agent Toolkit,
and others. These tools allow software developers to build commercial
rule-based systems, expert systems, knowledge-based systems, and knowledge
management applications for delivery on Windows PCs and the Web. They
feature development and debugging facilities, integration with the Windows
operating environment, and a run-time architecture. The 4.3 release features:
rich edit support, unlimited window contents, automatic syntax coloring,
enhanced cross-reference and code location tools, and support for the
.NET architecture.
QuickCode .NET, from Development Expertise, is a Visual Studio .NET add-in
that enables you to design and use QuickCodes: code fragments that can
be inserted into the text editor when the current line matches a specific
pattern. A single QuickCode can have multiple code fragments, each for
a specific language. QuickCode .NET currently supports Visual C#, Visual
Basic .NET, and ASP.NET. Which code fragment is used depends on the language
of the source code file. Each code fragment can be designed and tested
right from within the Visual Studio .NET environment. All QuickCode .NET
users have access to the QuickCode forum, a web site where QuickCodes
can be shared.
/n software has released three new products for the Microsoft .NET Compact
Framework, IP*Works!, IP*Works! SSL, and IP*Works! Zip, which combine
to provide more than 50 royalty-free components. IP*Works! includes more
than 30 fully managed components for Internet development implementing
Internet Protocols such as HTTP, FTP, SOAP, SMTP, POP, IMAP, SNMP, NNTP,
XML, MIME, Telnet, and more. IP*Works! SSL consists of 15 pure C# .NET
components for secure Internet connectivity including HTTPS, SOAPS, SMTPS,
POPS, FTPS, LDAPS, NNTPS, TelnetS, Digital Certificate Authentication,
and more. IP*Works! Zip is a suite of compression and archiving components
supporting standards such as Zip, Tar, Jar, and Gzip, written entirely
in managed code.
New from Sane Solutions is NetTracker 6.0, web analytics software that
now includes an intuitive GUI with reporting functionality. NetTracker
6.0 users can use the new calendar filter to instantly analyze web site
traffic data from specific time periods. You can also use the new filter
icon to generate ad hoc reports and custom analysis on the fly. New 6.0
dashboards provide an instant, visual summary of web site activity.
