Wolfram Research has released Mathematica 5.
Over 100 new algorithms for symbolic and numeric computation have been
implemented by in-house developers. In addition to updated versions of
J/Link and MathLink, Mathematica's standard connections to Java and C/C++,
Mathematica 5 comes with the .NET/Link, letting you integrate Mathematica
into applications using .NET framework.
Recursion Software has announced C++ <ToolKit> 3.0.2, which supports
Windows XP using Microsoft's Visual C++ .NET, and the Pocket PC using
eMbedded Visual C++ 3.0. Also introduced is support for the producer-consumer
synchronization model in the Thread<ToolKit>, providing you with
an elegant method to ensure synchronized availability of a resource to
multiple threads.
Sybase has announced Pocket PowerBuilder, a IDE for mobile and wireless
applications. Pocket PowerBuilder features the same 4GL integrated development
environment found in PowerBuilder, as well as the Sybase DataWindow for
dynamic data access with display formatting and data manipulation capabilities.
The tool integrates with SQL Anywhere Studio and includes wizards for
easy synchronization, allowing critical data to be communicated back to
enterprise systems using wired, public wireless, or Wi-Fi networks. Pocket
PowerBuilder synchronizes to a range of databases including IBM, Microsoft,
Oracle, and Sybase.
SmartDraw.com has released VisualScript XML, a visual scripting tool
for XML which lets you program XML statements into graphical symbols,
then drag-and-drop the symbols to sketch the flow of a business process.
VisualScript translates that sketch into a working XML script. VisualScript
XML promotes drag-and-drop diagramming with symbols and intelligent connectors,
and is intended to let you build libraries of reusable, pre-programmed
symbols to promote your own scripting standards. Other features include
the ability to automatically insert user-entered data into XML script
output, support multiple XML standards with the same models and templates,
and automatically validate XML scripts for proper syntax.
Visual Object Modelers has announced Visual UML Version 3.2. This release
features a UI with the look-and-feel of Microsoft Office XP and Visual
Studio.NET; a new class code window that dynamically shows the code generated
from a selected class and is updated based on changes made to the class;
improved generation of Visual Basic, Java, C++, C#, and Visual Basic.NET
code; and improved reverse-engineering of Visual Basic, Java, C#, and
Visual Basic.NET code.
IronTrack SQL generates data comparisons that can pinpoint the cause
of SQL performance delays in an application's JDBC performance. IronTrack
SQL lets you search for problems resulting from query interactions, or
to locate unexplained spikes in database utilization. The tool displays
GANTT-style charts of queries as they occur over time, letting you overlay
and compare query performance and activity between two or more sets of
query performance data. You can also search for performance problems that
result from query interactions, such as when two queries are executed
at the same time, and run automated local unit tests to check for a build's
variance from an established performance baseline.
LegacyJ has released Version 4.0 of the PERCobol COBOL compiler, designed
to allow CICS COBOL applications be recompiled for use in a J2EE environment.
PERCobol compiled programs allow access to Java applications through the
COBOL CALL statement and with the Callable Program Interface. The tool
contains support for more than 15 different dialects of COBOL, including
access to most COBOL data sources, and compiles for execution on most
platforms and J2EE application servers. PERCobol 4.0 is available with
the latest version of the Eclipse IDE.
PrismTech has announced the latest release of its middleware for real-time
and embedded ORB and CORBA services, OpenFusion e*ORB 3.0. The new release
features an improved, deterministic rchitecture which is optimized for
general-purpose processors, DSPs, and low power/low memory embedded microcontrollers.
C, C++, Ada, and Java applications can be supported. Additionally, a RT
Edition adds support for priorities and scheduling and can be used in
any system that requires hard real-time behavior.
GraphPak from Integrated Computer Solutions is a programming library
of 2D and 3D charting objects for the Qt toolkit. GraphPak is designed
to allow developers to more easily create charts or graphs that aid in
the visual presentation of technical and business data. This release includes
Bar, Line, Pie, Ring, Area, Hi-Lo, Box and Whisker, and Polar charts.
Based on Qt, Trolltech's multiplatform C++ application framework for writing
single-source applications, and the KD Chart product from Klardlvdalens
Datakonsult AB, GraphPak runs natively on Windows, Linux, Unix, and Mac
OS X.
Apycom Software has released of Apycom Java Menus and Buttons 4.23, a
collection of highly-configurable Java applets that let you create cross-browser
drop-down menus, bars, tabs, and animated buttons. The collection contains
12 different types of controls that cover all possible Web site navigation
needs. IDELIX Software's Pliable Display Technology (PDT) is an information
visualization technology that facilitates "detail-in-context"
viewing and data manipulation in 2D and 3D data sets. Version 3.0 of the
PDT SDK features simplified integration options for OEMs and Systems Integrators.
The PDT SDK 3.0 adds support of .NET and Component Object Model (COM)
wrappers. A new vector painting system has also been added to ease the
integration of PDT into vector drawing applications. Both OpenGL and non-Open
GL rendering solutions are currently available within the PDT SDK, with
additional classes for DirectX rendering also included in Version 3.0.
Flashline has introduced Flashline 4, the latest release of its Asset-based
Software Engineering family. Flashline 4 includes new cross-project collaborative
capabilities designed to help organizations eliminate redundant development
and increase the value of their software asset portfolio. Also new to Flashline
4 are five FlashPacks, focused solutions to help companies accelerate the
adoption of Web services, model-driven development, open source, and component-based
development for Java and .NET.
Intuit has updated its QuickBooks SDK, which lets you integrate apps
with QuickBooks 2003 accounting products, including QuickBooks: Online
Edition. New features in the SDK include remote data Sharing with QuickBooks
across a LAN; the ability to modify invoice and purchase order transactions;
the ability to add/query/delete sales orders; and expanded support for
reports. In addition, Version 2.1 of the SDK lets you add data extensions,
including the ability to create global data that applies to the company
file as a whole.
SpectrumSCM, a source configuration management system, is intended to
manage the entire project lifecycle for the definition, development, creation
and release of any digital asset, such as software, source code, text,
documents, drawings, images or Web pages. The tool includes version control,
process control/management, release management, branching, and issue tracking
features, and runs on any operating system with a Java Virtual Machine.
SpectrumSCM incorporates the Java Security Model and Security Extensions,
and also includes support for LDAP.
Reactor 5.1 from Oak Grove Systems is a workflow engine designed to model
any business process, including group assignments, parallel tasks, human
workflow and automated tasks, and complex conditionals. The suite of tools
includes a studio for defining and deploying business processes, an EJB-based
server to provide automation, and the Reactor Portal Framework, providing
front-end application integration and user-interface building tools. The
upgraded version is easier to use and allows the use of SSL security protocol
with LDAP.
Aspen Systems has released Version 2.0 of its browser-based software
management system, Aspen Beowulf Cluster (ABC) Management Software. Aspen
Systems has expanded ABC 2.0 to support AMD Opteron processors; SSL access;
diskless node configuration, administration and management; heterogeneous
cluster nodes; and multiple temperature scales. Expanded plugins and shadow
copy/restore capabilities are provided, along with expanded e-mail notification
for downed nodes and system traps. Node monitoring and self-reporting
statistics have also been expanded, and package management functions are
improved.
PSSC Labs is shipping CBeST 3.0, the company's Linux-based cluster management
software. CBeST 3.0 supports 32-bit and 64-bit AMDR and IntelR processors;
includes only open source tools; offers constant updating for maximum
performance; manages node replication, addition, and repair, as well as
monitoring CPU temperature; handles integration and testing of message
passing libraries and open source compilers; and is available in a diskless
configuration.
Charting Components 2.0, an extensible Flash component set from B-Line
Express, lets you add interactive charting and graphic solutions to your
Macromedia Flash front end. The components can consume static, dynamic,
or real-time data from any application server including: Cold Fusion,
.NET, Java, PHP, ASP, or the Flash Communication Server, or the components
can work independently with local data from XML files or Flash ActionScript
Arrays. The programming interface provides access to dozens of methods
and over 200 style properties, and the component library can be extended
programmatically.
OuterBay has announced Application Data Management 3.0, an integrated
software suite to manage data growth across applications, databases, and
storage infrastructure. The suite includes OuterBay's Application Resource
Monitor for monitoring and forecasting data growth; the Instance Generator
for testing data retention policies; LiveArchive, which identifies and
relocates inactive data; and new support for custom or customized applications
and databases. Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, Informix, Sybase databases are
supported, as well as NT, Solaris, AIX, Linux and other Unix operating
systems.
The eVision Message Exchange (EMX) is a hosted message service which
has the infrastructure for the exchange and transformation of messages
in any format and protocol. It has a Web interface for developers to configure
hubs and gateways, systems, messages (envelopes and payloads) and translations
for any e-business integration requirement. There is no need to buy software
and hardware. It supports XML, flat files, and EDI UN/EDIFACT file formats
and any combination of message mapping between these formats, as well
as XML DTDs and XSDs for message validation.
TMG Development's ASP.NET Localizer toolkit aims to provide all the design
and run-time support necessary for producing an internationalized Web
site using ASP.NET. Using ASP.NET Localizer, a designer types the localized
strings and image source locations into the Visual Studio designer, and
Localizer generates a new .resx file for that language, with all the property
changes written to this new file. The developer can switch backwards and
forwards between languages using Localizer, and the design surface is
kept up to date with the current language selection. When the Web application
is run Localizer checks the current locale and generates the Web form
using resources for that locale.
AcctSync Technologies' SDK connects to QuickBooks 2002 or higher using
QBXML, Intuit's QuickBooks API that enables data integration between third
party applications and QuickBooks. AcctSync is now shipping the SDK in
.NET Compact Framework and Java Editions. AcctSync Connector, a distributable
utility that allows AcctSync SDK applications to connect to remote QuickBooks
instances by specifying the URL of the machine where QuickBooks resides,
is included with these editions. AcctSync SDK AcctSync SDK has no external
dependencies, other than QuickBooks 2002 Pro or better.
